Description: You are cordially invited to the spring dinner of the Council to be held on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the Maplehurst Country Club in Frostburg, MD. We will gather at 6:00PM with dinner served at 6:30PM.

Our speaker will be Roger Kirwin, director of Old Bedford Village in Pennsylvania. Roger was a popular speaker at our spring dinner previously. This year he will focus on the 1775 expedition of Edward Braddock's army through this area and events to commemorate the French and Indian war, which began 250 years ago.

The meal includes a choice between (1) chicken marsala or (2) grilled salmon. There will also be vegetable lasagna as the vegetarian choice. Each meal will include a house salad, herbed potatoes, peas and carrots, dessert (lemon lime pie), beverages and rolls. The price is set at $16 per person, including gratuity.

Description:  You are cordially invited to the Annual Meeting of the Council of the Alleghenies to be held on Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Penn Alps, located on Route 40 east of Grantsville, Maryland.  We will gather at 10:30 for coffee and beverages.  The business meeting will start at 11:00.  Lunch will be served about 12:00.

The business meeting will include a discussion of the "health and welfare" of the Council, as well as election of the Board of Directors.  Members are requested to recommend persons to be added to the Board.  Volunteers are always welcome.

Suzanne Cawley of Keyser, West Virginia, will present the afternoon program on the history of quilts and their patterns.

Lunch will be:  tossed salad, baked chicken, parsley potatoes, vegetables, breads, Dutch apple pie, and beverages.

Description:  Our early summer tour this year will be to Fort Frederick and other historic sites of the French and Indian War period in Washington County, MD. The date is Tuesday, June 25, 2002; our guide will be Prof. Allan Powell, who has engaged in much research, speaking and writing about this era.

The anticipated schedule will be as follows:

7:45 Leave Frostburg (Ames Plaza)
8:00 Pick up people in Cumberland (call if you want this)
9:00 Break in Hancock
9:45 Arrival at Fort Frederick for tour, meet Allan Powell and Park Ranger
11:30 Board bus for trip to Windy Hills Restaurant in Clear Spring
11:50-12:45 Lunch
12:45-3:00 Tour of sites in Washington County
3:30 Return Allan to Fort Frederick
4:30 Return to Cumberland
5:00 Return to Frostburg

There are two choices for lunch: (a) Chicken Breast sandwich with toss salad or (b) Roast Beef with gravy, cole slaw and cottage cheese. Beverages and pie will accompany each choice. The cost for the trip including lunch is $30.00

You are cordially invited to the Spring Dinner of the Council.
There are three choices for the evening's meal:
1. Roast Beef $13.50
2. Chicken Monterey $13.75
3. Vegetarian Plate $10.00
All meals include rolls, beverages and a pie and cake table for dessert. Please indicate your preference when registering for this event. Please register no later than May 9th.

Our program will be a talk by Robert Pyle from Morgantown, WV. Mr Pyle has, for many years, been investigating and attempting to interpret petroglyths (rock carvings and writings) in WV. Some of the markings appear to be religious symbols not expected in the Native American cultures that previously inhabited the area.
